Rough rides over the Midwest
While the jetstream usually only causes light to moderate turbulence, due to an unusual pattern, a lot of planes encountered rough rides today. Reports from Boeing 717s, CRJs, an MD82, reported severe turbulence at altitudes in the 20,000s.

An independent analysis using Flightaware flight paths, indicates to me that Northwest Airlines still continues to be your best bet for a smooth flight, as they have the best forecasting abilities and continue to avoid turbulence better than the other airlines.
As a reminder, severe intensity means: Occupants are forced violently against seat belts or shoulder straps. Unsecured objects are tossed about. Food service and walking are impossible.
