Nor’easter brings delays, winds, and turbulence

Winter still does not want to let go, with a strong Nor’easter causing long delays and very rough take offs and landings in the East Coast. Flight delays as of this writing:

# Due to WX/LOW CIGS/WIND, departure traffic destined to Newark International Airport, Newark, NJ (EWR) is currently experiencing delays averaging 1 hour and 58 minutes.
# Due to WX/LOW CIGS/WIND, departure traffic destined to John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, NY (JFK) is currently experiencing delays averaging 4 hours and 42 minutes.
# Due to WX/LOW CIGS/WIND, departure traffic destined to La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA) is currently experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 12 minutes.
# Due to WX/LOW CIGS/ WIND, departure traffic destined to Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia, PA (PHL) is currently experiencing delays averaging 1 hour and 4 minutes.

A CRJ2 at JFK airport reported speed variations of +40kts/-30kts during climb on runway 13. This variation means that the plane experienced variations in speed of up to 40mph as it took off.

Winter’s last blast

Despite the spring equinox being almost a month behind us, it seems that mother nature was not quite done with winter yet. A low pressure system is bringing moderate to severe rides all over the Midwest, while the Santa Ana winds are causing severe turbulence over southern California.
