18 injured by turbulence on SAA flight to New York

At least 15 passengers and three crew members on a South Africa Airways (SAA) flight from Johannesburg to New York were injured after the plane was rattled by extreme turbulence, reports said Tuesday.

Northwest Airlines continues to go above, beyond, and around turbulence

The weather and jet stream activity of today makes for very interesting analysis of airlines and their willingness to avoid turbulence. A previous blog post from December 13th, 2006 showed that Northwest Airlines did the best job in avoiding turbulence. A look today shows much of the same. Only Northwest seems willing to avoid turbulence the most, as compared to other airlines. You can always investigate this yourself by visiting FlightAware and seeing the routes that planes take. Just type in two city pairs and have a look.

World Famous Denver Turbulence

When the winds are just right, it can be a turbulent ride anywhere near Denver or the area. A large low pressure system parked over the mountain west is causing a large area of turbulence.

A pronounced jet stream is also causing severe turbulence up high for some jets as they cross the area. An A320 has hit severe turbulence north of Denver.
