Hi There
40% chance of storms for EWR, so there may be delays and some bumps as you climb up, and a bit of jetstream activity as well. As you get farther away from EWR it should smooth out for the most part as you continue to SAN.
Enjoy your flight, it should be decent.

Thank you so much. Ok, so I just have to "get through" leaving the Newark area part (*gulp*)

I usually try to give a worse case, but I don't think it'll be that bad. I've flown about 30 flights last year and the worse I had was a couple of jolts in a CRJ on takeoff and landing and a 20 minute low altitude flight in high winds between two Michigan cities for a connection. I've even landed at DCA during a thunderstorm in the surrounding area and it was very smooth, so storms don't mean a rough patch, just a possibility of such. It depends on the skill of the pilot, and air traffic, and such. Please don't try to worry too much, I find it helps to get engrossed in a book (but the book has to interest you, the flight magazine usually doesn't cut it). Keep in mind that EWR has a 40% chance of storms.
Thank you so much. Ok, so I just have to "get through" leaving the Newark area part (*gulp*)

Well - we do have an early flight - 8:50am - and its a 737-800 Continental.
I have an iPod, a book, magazine, and my spouse. Maybe a dramamine will put a lid on my jitters if that doesn't work.
But - I really appreciate your checking for me - thanks!
