Hi and great site,
Flights are tomorrow 27 Jan.
1st flight is UAL 1142 departing from San Diego at 8:34 am and arriving in Chicago at 2:25 PM. It is a 757-200. Follow on flight is UAL 0958 from Chicago to London Heathrow and it departs Chicago at 4:15 PM and arrives in London at 5:55 AM. It is a 777 aircraft. Thanks for the help.

I looked carefully and I think that both flights will be relatively smooth. Transatlantic flights show fairly smooth, although I'd be prepared for a few bumps every now and then as you cross the jet stream. As for your SAN-ORD flight, I'd expect perhaps light-moderate for short periods, but mostly smooth.
Enjoy your trip and be sure to tell us how it went.

250,000 miles a year? How often would you say you encounter turbulence?

depending on time of year and area being flown. I did a lot in Asia last year and they have constant storms it seems although the airlines are pretty good at avoiding. Just got in to Heathrow this morning and SAN-ORD leg was great but about 3/4 of the ORD-LHR leg was light with some moderate turbulence (jet stream?). In any case, more than I want to experience is the answer...:)
