lots of severe over the Mississippi around the Illinois/Iowa border, jet stream is in a tight U pattern, with the eastern leg right over this area
ran into a similar sitaution in Oct flying over Kansas City when the western leg of the U was only about 100 miles, some of the nastiest CAT I've ever experienced, but it didn't last more than 5 min, although we got it again for another 5 min passing over the western leg
