I'm curious about something. I'm traveling to Panama in the next couple of days, and lo and behold we have our first tropical system of the year.
Now, in the case that this system is so big and covers such a large area, would it be a bumby flight into Panama or Costa Rica. Since it seems that their is no way around these slow moving storms, what are they to do? Do the pilots just go for it?

If they can they will fly over it and around the higher could formations. Remember just because there might be 120MPH winds on the ground, it doesn't mean it will be like that at altitude. Also remember that pilots are not going to put their passengers, plane or themselves in danger.

I flew over a tropical storm last year, and it was considerably smoother than other rides I have been on in clear air. The could formations were neat to look at, which made the flight a little more interesting.
