    Default 1/21 jfk-lax ual891 & lax-phx usa185

    Hi
Have a flight tomorrow (1/21) from JFK-LAX on United 891, departing 6:40 am & arriving 9:59 am. Connecting to USAir flight 185 departing LAX at 12:40pm arriving PHX 3:01 pm. I'm getting pretty nervous about the storms/winds in southern california. How bad do you think it will be?

    thanks in advance!

I think it'll be rather bumpy into LAX, no way around that. Light to moderate possible possible at most stages of the flight, but especially the last half of the first, landing and takeoff out of LAX (just no way around that), and for most of the way between LAX and PHX. Wish it was a better forecast. Who knows, it might not be that bad.

Thanks! I'm crossing my fingers for smoother than expected flights. Do you think it's fair to say that moderate is the worst to be anticipated? I'll post a followup report after the flights. Thanks again

As promised, here's my report: It was the best trip ever! But probably for a different reason than you'd expect. I didn't go. Turns out I ate some sushi and woke up later with terrible stomach pains and worse (which I'll just leave to your imagination). Missed my flight and tried to rebook for the next day. Before I could find a new flight (tons of cancellations/delays into SoCal and PHX made seats hard to find), my travelling companion called me and told me it was 'meant to be that I wasn't on the flight' as the ride was so terribly turbulent I would have been petrified. She said the pilot made two attempts to land in phoenix and was unsuccessful and they eventually diverted to Tucson where she rented a car with 3 other strangers and drove to PHX. I took it as a sign and stopped trying to get a new flight.

So in the end I think it worked out for the best. My friend is a *seasoned* traveller completely unafraid in the least of flying and she said it was a doozy of a flight. So that's my report!

Southwest posted a status update on Facebook that they were canceling flights into PHX and other airports that day, and saw the other airlines continuing to put planes out there. I loved the report, thank you for sharing, it must have been pretty bad for those planes that tried to land.
