    Interesting information, thank so much for sharing. I was able to look through those posts. Honestly, I would have never pegged Northwest as the pioneer of this technology so it was really neat to see those old posts. Delta may become an airline of choice for me knowing this information!

    Thanks for the reassurance on the on the CRJ-900. Seems small when looking at it, but I've flown an ERJ-175 many times which turns out is very similar in size. Some sort of illusion no doubt!

    Yes, they absolutely are. They bought Northwest, who really were pioneers in turbulence forecasting. Remember that Northwest did a lot of flying over mountain states (hence the name). Back when this website had a blog, I was tracking Northwest. Archive.org has a snapshot of one blog post I made:

    These days it's Delta who is filling this mantle. I check routing all the time when there's bumps, and Delta does more than the other airlines. They fly low to avoid bumps, they take different routings, but it's really playing around with altitude where they just outdo all the other airlines.

    I remember being really bummed when Delta bought Northwest, but Delta has carried the mantle of Northwest's spirit.

    As for the CRJ-900, I rode jetBlue's version, and it was super nice. I wouldn't be concerned at all honestly. The 2x2 seating is very sweet.

    Is Delta really best at avoiding turbulence??

    So there seems to be a lot of press recently on Delta investing in forecasting turbulence and avoiding it. Is there any substance to this claim? Apparently they have developed an app for their pilots that allows them to link all data together in almost real time (I think I read 15 min updates). I'm just curious to if this is legit.

    I have an upcoming flight on Delta on a CRJ-900 from PIT to LGA. I'm concerned about flying this smaller plane - never been on one.....used to bigger guys.
